new in: bottega veneta

New to the shop for Spring/Summer 2012 is Italian luxury label Bottega Veneta. Renowned for its signature intrecciato woven leather, Italian fashion house Bottega Veneta's timeless style has earned it a loyal and discerning followingsince its launch in 1966. German designer Tomas Maier took over as head designer in 2001, giving the label's classic brand of chic a new, modern perspective. The look is clean, modern and sophisticated.

This spring Bottega Veneta takes surface and hand as the starting point for an exuberant romp through extraordinary materials, unusual finishes, and exaggerated prints. The palette is vivid and saturated, centered on lush shades of tourmaline, dark denim and indigo. Blood red, irish green, burnt orange, plaster and chocolate brown heighten the vibrant mood. The silhouette is architecturally rigorous but sensuous, a combination of tailored angles and fluid lines that keep close to the body. Shapes are illusory, with layers of fabric altering the apparent line of a dress or skirt so that a first glance leads to a second look.

Materials encompass a broad spectrum of textures, finishes and drapes. The list includes ultra-matte silk, silk chiffon, and cotton organza, high-shine satin, and wool gabardine that's been calendered to give the surface a delicate luster. Blends of wool and silk, wool and viscose, and silk and polyester make for fabrics with unexpected weights and weaves. Three-dimentional surfaces-quilted, faconne, seersucker, coated- add substance and volume. Prints are abstract and overprinted, creating the illusion of depth. While each material is interesting on its own, maximum impact derives from the mix, from combinations of matte and shine, stiff amd fluid, textured and smooth.

''This season, we wanted to make clothes with a sense of freedom and high spirits,'' says Creative Director Tomas Maier. ''There is a certain joy in this profusion of colors and textures, a strength that comes from unusual pieces that are beautifully made and not easily categorized.''

new in: laurence dacade

"Shoes, like jewellery or sculpture, are very sensual objects. My goal is to make shoes for Cinderella, but with a touch of the French." Laurence Dacade

Laurence Dacade has designed collections for the likes of Balmain, Christian Lacroix, Karl Lagerfeld, Givenchy, and Oscar de la Renta and in 2007, decided to create her own line, embodying the philosophy that beautiful shoes need not be painful.

The designer’s love of shoes started early. At fourteen years old, with her first solo purchase of a pair of candy-striped ballet flats, she had found her passion, and went on to master the technical aspects of designing shoes, training at the APIC School.

Overwhelmingly inspired by the cultures of the world and the women she meets along the way, Dacade’s understanding of construction as well as her passion for shoes, has enabled her to produce designs that are both comfortable and alluringly attractive.

new in: altuzarra a/w 11

New in for Autumn Winter 2011, Joseph Altuzarra is a New York based designer who has worked for top brands such as Givenchy and Proenza Schouler. Having perfected his signature emphasis on tailoring and detail, Altuzarra now has now branched out and launched a successful brand of his own.

Altuzarra's A/W 11 collection is all about 90's grunge. Parkas, checks and bias cuts were all the rage and fits were free and loose. Rugged outerwear was paired with soft and floaty dresses for a very distinct contrast that will carry over into Spring 2012. Style the floaty dresses with chunky outerwear from Joseph or an oversized coat from Isabel Marant.

Over at Chloe, it seems Hannah McGibbon's traditional 70's girl has three new things on her mind this season: leather, blocking and all things snakeskin. Be it an outfit based solely on one or a crazy combination of all three, not a single look went down the runway without at least a hint of these themes. While colors were largely the beiges, blacks and creams you'd expect; a newer, fresher feeling came from the heavy hand with with Mrs McGibbon doled out everything else. Prints on top of prints, allover leather, and blocking from head to toe were what made this collection stand out from the rest. Style leather pieces with the likes of Jil Sander and Celine for something mature or pair the snakeskins with leopard print from Joseph for something far more bold.

one to know: olivier rousteing

The new era at Paris's sex-charged fashion house Balmain is beginning to take shape, with 25 year old Olivier Rousteing being tapped as the label's new designer. Rousteing, who joined Balmain in 2009 and is currently in charge of women's wear, replaces Christophe Decarin, who left earlier this month due to strategic disputes with chairman Alain Hivelin. Before joining Balmain, Rousteing worked for five years at Roberto Cavalli, which should serve him well in delivering the rock-inflected glamour that became the label's trademark under Decarin.

celine: a/w 11

Drawing on the rich interiors and plush detailing of the luxury automobile, Phoebe Philo has designed another collection based on understated elegance. Whereas last season's Celine girl was a bit more fun and funky, here we see a focus on maturity and super luxe. Clean lines and classic cuts are broken up by chevrons, stripes and leather detailing. Colors are very autumnal with shades of brown, beige, mahogany and terracota stealing the show. This collection will complement Joseph beautifully and can also be styled with tailored pieces from Stella and the Row.
