jil sander s/s 11

Raf Simons has really hit on something special for Spring/Summer 11. Minimalism meets maximalism here with this clever play on color and silhouette. Notice how the shapes are simple but suddenly look very new. Cotton and parkas add a casual day wear feel and colors are more playful than usual. Returning Jil Sander customers may prefer the black, navy and whites but use the prints and brights to attract new ones. Try styling simple cotton tops with Joseph feline trousers or pairing the printed pieces with other contrasting ones from Stella McCartney.

the row

The Olsen sisters' Spring Summer for the Row can be summed up in one little word: soft. Soft soft soft. Soft colors, soft fabrics, soft cuts. Constricted bodices are now free, structured suiting now loose and the color palette has made a pleasant progression into pastel. And all are better for it. Luckily what does remain is the beautiful tailoring, immaculate construction and super chic minimalism for which they are known. The best of both worlds. Try pairing long bias-cut pieces with textured outerwear from Proenza Schouler, Joseph and Isabel Marant.

givenchy s/s 11

This season's Givenchy collection is truly a sight to behold. Everything which is Ricardo Tisci all at once: goth, drama, romance, religion, tailoring, levels and edge. A full fledged parade of the strongest elements from recent collections, layered and fused into one. We see here a culmination of the look that began in Fall 2008, with those unforgettable piles of crosses and chains. How long Tisci can carry this look is a question for another collection. But one thing's for certain: this one is spectacular. Style with Nina Ricci and Balmain for extra drama or calm down the look with the Row.

chloe s/s 11

The Chloe S/S 11 collection is modern, chic and straightforward; though also definitely more on the simple side than we're used to. The characteristic color palette is still here, but with a serious and no-nonsense approach to styling and details: the ballerina skirts probably being the most exciting thing on offer. None the less, such minimalism should actually prove very successful, as sometimes the problem with Chloe can be the extra bows and frills...

This versatile collection will blend well with outerwear from Stella McCartney and Jil Sander or try layering the floaty pieces under Joseph lurex knits and chunky jumpers.

balmain s/s 11

Apparently last season's disco queen has just discovered The Sex Pistols. Christophe Decarin has produced yet another collection for the Balmain bad girl who likes a bit of glamour, but this time around she's is a touch more angry and has a lot more edge. And though the safety pin jackets may prove a bit tricky, the cropped skinny jeans and distressed tanks will surely sell out. Try pairing with similar pieces from Burberry or soften the look with something floaty and feminine from Chloe.

celine s/s 11

A very important collection for Phoebe Philo, as she is clearly expanding on the brand's newfound identity and it's fascinating to watch where she'll take it. For S/S 11 there is a softening of the austere and serious power dressing and yet the minimalism and maturity are still undoubtedly present. Fabrics remain a focus but strong coats and blazers have been replaced with relaxed pullovers and cuts are more loose and fluid. Notice the hints of sportswear and heavy tone on tone. Layer with equally flowy pieces from Chloe, contrasting textures from Proenza Schouler or add a splash of print with Missoni.

street style: sheer top

A definite key piece of the season; pair the sheer top with our Joseph leather bra, mix with thick canvas or cotton for an interesting combination of textures, or layer underneath a similar shade for tone on tone.
